Weekend breaks in self-catering cottages

rural weekend breaksWe all lead very busy lives and sometimes the best way to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable weekend is to escape with a weekend break.

There is a wide selection of holidays for weekend breaks including a stay in a holiday cottage. Just renting accommodation for a self-catering holiday where you are free to decide where you eat suits people who like to be out and about in the countryside.

Weekend Breaks

- self-catering holiday cottages and log cabins for your special weekend away

With self-catering, you cook your own breakfast and can then go exploring, cycling, sightseeing or whatever you plan for the day. You can decide whether to stop somewhere for a pub lunch or whether to pack a picnic to take with you. Self-catering leaves you as free as a bird.

weekend breaksShould you wish to seek out company in the evenings, there is usually a local pub or restaurant. If you are exhausted after a day’s walking you might prefer put your feet up in front of the TV and open a bottle of wine.

Choose a holiday cottage with its own hot tub or sauna for more ways to relax.  Sometimes it is nice to stay somewhere peaceful and secluded to have time for yourselves away from daily family and work demands.

Read about romantic cottage breaks.

Ideally, we prefer not to travel too far for a weekend break. Most long weekend breaks run from Friday (arrival after 3 pm) until Monday morning (depart around 10 am) although 2 night weekend breaks are also possible.

Where to go for a weekend break?

Perhaps there is a city that you have never visited but would like to?

How about a food festival? Lots are held all over Britain and most of us relish the prospect of tasting new dishes.

The countryside is a favourite weekend break choice because it makes us feel good to be outdoors, especially in good weather.  Anyone with a passion for a particular sport understands the thrill and pleasure of participating.  Surfers head for Cornwall’s beaches each summer, hang gliders for the nearest hills, pot holers head for Yorkshire’s caverns.  There are many less extreme activities such as canoeing, bird watching, mountain biking, pony trekking etc. A weekend with new experiences would be fun. Discover the country and find out more about its possibilities.

Did you know that it is possible to include a day’s course during your weekend away. Photographers may wish to sign up for a day of wildlife photography with a professional photographer, artists for a day’s personal tuition. There are specialist cookery courses, wine appreciation and a myriad of other possibilities.

There are some truly wonderful weekend breaks to be enjoyed up and down the country. You can either rent a cottage and find out what there is to do in its location or decide on an activity and find somewhere to stay nearby.  The important thing is to just do it and make the most of life.
