Monmouthshire in south east Wales is just inside the Welsh Border and a good location for holidays in self catering cottages. The countryside is favoured by walking groups and is withing a convenient distance of the Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley. The hillsides are dotted with broad leaved trees including ancient beech with numerous walks for the rambling and hiking fraternity. 

There are interesting places to visit such as Monmouth, Chepstow Castle and town overlooking the River Wye. Raglan Castle and Llanthony Priory are also of interest.
