There is an abundance of local attractions and theme parks including the Big Sheep, The Milky Way and Kilarney Springs. We are close to the once important port of Bideford, which boasts an arched bridge dating back to Saxon times and a quaint Pannier Market. Out of this port once sailed Raleigh, Drake and Grenville who led the first settlers to America. It has a quaint Pannier Market (Tuesday and Saturday) and an abundance of antique shops and public houses.
Westward Ho!, where Rudyard Kipling went to school, is close by, with its huge expanse of beach, which is popular with surfers. There are a modest number of amusement arcades, a sandy beach, a go-cart track, ice cream parlours and tearooms. Atlantic Village, a new discount outlet Shopping Centre is nearby with a children?s adventure centre. So the children can have fun while you shop.
The Tarka Trail, the path of a disused railway line, runs nearby where you can hire a bike or walk through the Devon countryside. The beautiful, cobbled fishing village of Clovelly is only a few miles away, with its whitewashed cottages and steep cobbled streets were cars are banned and only donkeys are permitted to carry goods up and down the steep lanes. Here you can see the little cottage, now a museum, where the author Charles Kingsley once lived.
Instow Beach is just the other side of Bideford, with its attractive quayside houses and beautiful golden sandy beach and dunes. Bucks Mills is only a few miles away and has a few tiny cottages and a quaint tearoom. A steep walk through the tiny village down to the beach, which is full of rock pools to explore.
Rosemoor the Royal Horticultural Society centre is only a ten-minute drive away for you to explore and wonder at the beautiful flora and fauna. Just past Rosemoor in Torrington is the Dartington Crystal factory and visitor centre where, as well as the glass blowing demonstrations, exhibitions and factory tour, there is now a new Family Glass Art Activities Centre to keep the children amused.
